When lumber is scarce or pricey, calculating exactly how many lengths you need can help reduce cost but makes the planning process crucial. On this top, there was no margin for error because 1) the wood was pricey and the budget limited, and 2) reclaimed lumber often means there is only so much of a particular cut or milling that will make a uniform table top.

When life says you need a giant circle…. get a jig. I know I could have made my own jig so all you woodworkers out there can just save yourself the hassle of emailing me. For this commissioned piece I needed this cut to succeed the first time, with not hiccups. So I went with this circle jig and could not have been happier with the set up or result.

The goal for this project is “elegant farmhouse.” A 52” diameter round farmhouse table with some amazing white oak courtesy of my go-to for unique reclaimed lumber, Longleaf Lumber Inc. in Cambridge, MA. After the table top is cut, it will be on to edging it to the clients desires and wrapping up the base.
